In celebration of this year’s love theme, Fairford Festival are inviting children
aged 5-7yrs (to submit up to 200 words) and children age 7+ (to sumbit up to 600 words) using the line:
'What I love most...'
Our judges will be looking for originality, good use of language, and the ability to entertain the reader.

- Entry forms have also been sent to the following schools for distribution:
– Ampney Crucis, Down Ampney, Southrop, Kempsford, Hatherop, Meysey Hampton and Fairford C of E Primary Schools - Complete the form and with your short story, EITHER:
– Take it to 7a Coffee Shop, 7a London St, Fairford and pop it in the entry box (7a are open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm)
– For those attending the above schools, you can also leave your story and entry form at your school reception for collection on Friday 23rd May
Judging and prizes
All entries will be judged by members of the festival committee who will decide on a shortlist. A representative from our sponsor, Lakes by Yoo, will then select the winner and present the award to the winner.
The winning entry will be announced on Sunday 8th June at 3pm. Those shortlisted will receive a book token each with the winner receiving a very special cup. We will invite all those shortlisted to attend the prize giving.

Rules
- The competition is open to all children from aged 5-11yrs
- All entries must have a title and ages 5-7 must not exceed 200 words and ages 7+ must not exceed 600 words
- Please tell us on the entry form if the child has any special educational needs that the judges can take into consideration
- The closing date is Friday 23rd May 2025. Please note 7a are open Tues-Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 9am-1pm
- There is no entry fee
- Only one entry per child
- Entries must be based on the topics listed above
- Entries will only be accepted with an entry form (download here)
- Entries will not be returned so please keep a copy
- The judges’ decision is final
- The winner will be notified via the contact details provided on the entry form and also announced at the festival on Sunday 8th June
- The prize will be awarded in the main tent. This may be subject to change so please check the order of events throughout the weekend or ask a member of the Fairford Festival Crew
- Authors of the winning entry grant Fairford Festival the right to publish or broadcast their work though copyright will remain with the author
- Entries must only be written in English
- Entries will only be accepted with parent or guardian signature
- Fairford Festival reserve the right to request proof of age
- Original accounts only will be accepted
- Any unsuitable or defamatory entries will be rejected
