** The Tudors are coming to Fairford in June 2021 **
The Fairford Festival Committee has unanimously agreed to postpone the 2020 Festival until next year. The popular Festival, which takes place each year at the beginning of June, will now go ahead over the weekend of 11th-13th June 2021.
It was hoped that the annual event would still go ahead in September this year. However, Kerrie-Anne Payne, Chair of the Festival Committee, said: “It’s a huge shame, as we’ve put so much effort into planning this year’s event, but we feel that there are too many uncertainties around the Covid-19 situation and are concerned for the safety of our community.”
The 2020 Fairford Festival was to have had a Tudor theme to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII visiting Fairford in 1520 and preparations had already been put in place to have a Tudor themed fancy dress Parade, minstrels, jugglers, a jester, falconry display, archery and even a King Henry VIII lookalike together with his six wives! Kerrie continued: “Many people in Fairford were looking forward to the 2020 Festival with a Tudor theme as it is so colourful, flamboyant and fun. They’re not going to be disappointed however, as the Tudors will now be coming to Fairford in 2021.”
Also retained for 2021 will be the Fairford 10k Road Race and Fairford Festival of Fiction with several already-confirmed celebrity authors and lots of music, children’s activities, food and drink.
So there’s now plenty of time to plan and make what you are going to wear – a smock, jerkin, doublet, hose, breeches, cape, plumed hat, ruff or farthingale. Put the date in your diary!
*FAIRFORD FESTIVAL 2020 – RESCHEDULED to 11th – 13th September*
Due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, the Festival committee have made the decision to delay this year’s Fairford Festival.
A great deal of hard work and planning has gone on to this year’s Festival however we have to keep our community safe, so we will reschedule to 11th – 13th September. Hopefully we’ll be back to some sense of normality by then and everyone will be able to join us for a great weekend of fun.
We hope you all keep safe during these uncertain times and look forward to seeing you later in the year.
The Festival Committee
We can officially announce that next year’s Fairford Festival will take place from 5th – 7th June.
To commemorate 500 years since King Henry VIII visited our town our theme next year will be the Tudor period …
‘In August 1520 Henry VIII and his entourage set out on a Royal progress arriving at Fairford on the 26th to stay for a week with the wealthy wool merchant Sir Edmund Tame. John Tame’s son Edmund had been knighted in 1516 and became one of Henry VIII’s knights of the body who would have personally attended him at court. During the visit to Fairford Henry would have attended Mass in St Mary’s church on the 28th, St Augustine’s day. Indeed, the visit may have been made to view the church windows which are thought to have been made by Barnard Flower, the Royal glazier.’
We will also commemorate 500 years since the Field of Cloth of Gold…
‘The Field of Cloth of Gold was a meeting between King Henry VII and King Francis I which took place between 28th May and 10th June 1520. It was one of the most impressive, lavish meetings to ever be held between the two Kings. Held between the English stronghold of Guînes and the French town of Ardres, on a piece of land which was referred to as the Field of Cloth of Gold.’
So we’ll have distinctly gold colour theme too!
We’ll be sharing more news of what’s on nearer the time, so for now save the date and we look forward to seeing you next year!

The Fairford Festival Committee will be holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday 20th July 2017 at 7:30pm at Fairford Cricket Club.
We will be presenting our accounts and electing our key committee members.
If you enjoyed the festival this year and would like to be a part of the team, please come along and meet the committee to find out how you can be a part of something special.
If you can’t attend the AGM but would like to help for next year’s festival, please email Kerrie@fairfordfestival.org.uk
The Fairford Festival depends on the continued generosity of our commercial sponsors and anything we can do to encourage both residents and visitors alike to the town, will hopefully be to their advantage too.
Finally, the Committee is open to anyone to join (the more helpers the merrier) and all residents are encouraged to put forward their ideas for improvement and new events for the following year.
